Biography

Hi! I’m Dr. Melanie Deitch.  I grew up in sunny Grand Junction, CO.  I moved to Troy, NY for college and graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2014.  I made another cross-country move to then attend the University of Houston College of Optometry and graduated with highest honors in 2018. While in Houston, I received specialized training in dry eye management, medical optometry, pediatric care, and surgical co-management.  I love learning about the latest and greatest in eyecare and applying that knowledge to best address my patient’s needs! I am a member of the American Optometric Association and Beta Sigma Kappa international optometric honor society, and I am licensed in both Missouri and Kansas.  I am a participating optometrist in InfantSEE®, a program where we provide a free comprehensive eye exam for children between 6 and 12 months of age!

I decided to become an eye doctor after my own experience of struggling to see in the classroom, and the difference my optometrist made in my life when he gave me my first pair of glasses!  I love being able to impact my patients’ lives in similar ways, whether it be allowing you to see clearly again, making your eyes feel better, or helping to manage your overall healthcare. At Innovative Vision Care I strive to live by our mission statement during every visit, giving you a truly personalized eye care experience.

I live with my husband, Tom, in Leawood, KS.  We met while I was in Houston, but he is originally from the Kansas City area which is how we ended up here!  He is a software engineer and an excellent cook! We don’t have any children yet, but we do have a cat, Iris, who I’m always happy to show cute photos of!  I enjoy getting outside any time I can to camp, hike, bike, or cross-country ski. When not at the office, I can be found doing anything crafty or DIY, or experimenting with baking in the kitchen.  I’m always looking for great places to eat throughout KC and will happily take suggestions. My most recent hobby is gardening, and I’m currently trying to overhaul the landscaping at our house!
